Algeria has ratified a number of bilateral trade agreements with other countries, but there is no bilateral free trade agreement between the U.S. and Algeria. In 2001, the U.S. and Algeria signed a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) that created a platform for discussion of trade and investment issues. Algeria ratified an EU association agreement in September 2005 and began active membership in the Arab Free Trade Zone in 2009. Algeria is not a member of the WTO.
