Discusses opportunities for U.S. franchisers and legal requirements in the market.

The Uzbek market presents unexplored opportunities for franchises.  Only a few international companies have franchises in Tashkent.  The most serious barriers to franchising efforts are quality control, lack of information, and weak intellectual property rights protections.  However, there is great interest from local businesses to develop franchising with U.S. companies, primarily in restaurant, beauty, healthcare, and tourism industries.  In 2018, local firms opened the first KFC and Baskin-Robbins restaurants in Uzbekistan and announced further plans for other Yum Brands, such as Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.
