Slovakia - Agricultural Sectors Slovakia - Agricultural Sectors
In 2018, Slovakia’s total agriculture, fish and forestry imports were USD 5.35 billion and exports were USD 3.33 billion. Slovakia’s most important agricultural trading partners are the Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany.
Slovakia imported USD 11.3 million worth of U.S. food and agricultural products in 2018, a 10 percent increase from USD 10.3 million in 2017. Official import numbers do not include significant and steadily growing transshipments of U.S. products from other EU countries.
Best prospects for U.S. agricultural products include consumer-oriented products such as fish and seafood, distilled spirits, and tree nuts, particularly almonds. U.S. food preparations are used primarily by the food-processing sector.
Supported by NGOs, the current government strives for a GMO-free food country status and a new national food labelling system.
