My journey at the U.S. Commercial Service Bucharest began at the end of June when I joined the Commercial Specialists team for an unexpected and unforgettable experience, which I wish would have lasted longer than a month. After three years of undergraduate studies in Business Economics, this internship came at the right time being the most rewarding graduation present.
During my time there, I had the opportunity to work closely with the Commercial Specialists on various market reports (medical equipment market, luxury brand lighter market, automotive market, dental market and IT market) which helped me develop valuable transferable research, interpersonal and time management skills. Additionally, I conducted a primary research for the American lawnmowers exporters interested to enter on the Romanian market. This project has strengthened my ability to conduct a competitive analysis and boosted my confidence in approaching clients. Beside the office work, I was delighted to participate and assist the CS Team at the 234th Anniversary of the Independence Day at the American Ambassador Residence in Bucharest.
This internship was the best way to network with specialists in the field and to meet new people. I was very surprised to find a supportive and flexible team of Commercial Specialists, who were eager to share their experience, to give guidance and regular feedback – which for me are the most important characteristics of a learning environment in which an individual can reach maximum performance. With this occasion I want to thank to all the members of the CS team for their continuous support, for treating me with professionalism and last but not least, for considering me part of the team – It was a pleasure being your colleague!
Completing this internship I feel I have a stronger awareness and coverage of the main issues and elements of the bilateral relationship between Romania and America at a micro-economic level. This was the perfect way to get an insight into the world of international commerce by exploring the methods of entry of American companies on the Romanian market, trade barriers, development opportunities and market services.
Reflecting back on my experience, I feel this internship really stimulated my abilities and was consistent with my way of thinking and approaching challenging issues. It really helped me analyse my professional behaviour and develop valuable skills that I can now apply in my master studies and further in my career. I really recommend this internship to anyone who is interested in international commerce/relations, market research, and governance issues.
