Commercial Counselor/Deputy Senior Commercial Officer
Rick Ortiz is a career diplomat and member of the Senior Foreign Service since 2012. He works directly for the US Commercial Service, the lead trade and investment promotion branch at the U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration.
In 1998 Rick began his diplomatic career as Commercial Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia. Subsequently, he served in Amman, Jordan, Baghdad, Iraq, Casablanca, Morocco, and as Deputy SCO in Mexico City, Mexico.
He is currently the Commercial Counselor, Deputy SCO at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Rick obtained a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations Management from Claremont McKenna College in 1983. He obtained his Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of International Law and Diplomacy,Tufts University in1990.
Rick is a Presidential Management Fellow Class ‘90, American Field Service returnee (1977-78), American Council on Exercise Certified Group Fitness Instructor, and Advanced PADI certified scuba diver.
