Principal Commercial Officer, U.S. Consulate, Dubai

Robert Bannerman is currently the Principal Commercial Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Previously, Bob served as the Deputy Senior Commercial Officer in Rome, Italy (200702011), the Principal Commercial Officer in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (2002-2006), and as Commercial Attaché in Manila, Philippines (1998-2001) and Beijing, China (1995-98).

Prior to joining the Foreign Commercial Service in 1994, Bob practiced law in Washington, D.C. with the firm of Mudge Rose Guthrie Alexander and Ferdon, and in Seoul, Korea with the firm of Kim & Chang. His areas of expertise include intellectual property law enforcement, international business transactions, and international trade litigation. From 1974 to 1983 he was Attorney-Advisor in the Office of the General Counsel and Legal Advisor to the Chairman at the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington, D.C.

Bob has a J.D. degree from the University of Minnesota Law School (1973) and a B.A. in political science (Cum Laude) from St. Olaf College (1970). He is conversant in Italian, Mandarin and Vietnamese.
