Welcome to Malawi

Malawi is a landlocked country located in Southern Central Africa along the western side of part of the Great Rift Valley of Africa. Covering a total area of 48,000 square miles, it stretches some 560 miles north to south and between 56 and 100 miles east to west. Malawi’s geography is characterized by high plateau, isolated mountains and the lake. Lake Malawi, the third largest fresh water lake in Africa, is 352 miles long and occupies about 20 percent of the country’s total land area. The Mulanje Mountain is the second highest mountain in Southern Africa with the highest point rising to 10,000 feet above sea level and home to the rare Mulanje cedar. Malawi is one of the poorest nations on earth. With 13 million inhabitants and a population growth rate estimated at approximately 2.8%, Malawi is one of the most densely populated countries on the African continent. Annual per capita GDP is about USD 210
