Venue: Santa Monica, CA
Date: November 5-12, 2014
The American Film Market (AFM) is an annual event where participants from over 70 countries converge to buy and sell distribution rights for completed films or to gain financing for film projects in various stages of production. Unlike a film festival, the AFM operates more like a tradeshow by creating a marketplace where production and distribution deals are closed. During it’s eight days, more than $800 million in deals will be sealed. According to "Variety" magazine, AFM’s global reach is unusual in the sector and makes it particularly important to sales and distribution specialists.
The AFM is held in Santa Monica at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel and the Le Merigot Beach Hotel which are both converted into a busy marketplace of offices.
In addition to the deal-making that occurs at the AFM there are screenings, seminars, red carpet premieres, and networking events. The AFM also takes over all of the movie theaters on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade (and in the surrounding community) where participants can view more than 900 screenings of over 500 films – 31 new films every two hours – the majority of them world or U.S. premieres. The films shown range from big budget blockbusters that will be released by the major studios in the U.S. to lower budget art and genre films recognized at international film festivals, all seeking theatrical and television distribution throughout the world.
Exhibitors at the AFM are selling and licensing rights to feature films. Some also offer movies made for television.
A half-day Finance Conference and eight to ten seminars are offered a la carte.
We can help bring you into contact with the American companies exhibiting at the American Film Market. Copies of the American Film Market 2014 U.S. Exhibitors List will be available from Padraig O’Connor nearer to the show date. This document will provide a comprehensive list of all U.S. Exhibitors holding offices at the 2014 AFM. It will provide company websites and links to their individual AFM Film Catalogue pages to help delegates identify who they would like to meet with during AFM 2014.
