Our Commercial Specialists offer comprehensive export promotion assistance through a variety of programs and services to U.S. companies wishing to enter or expand their Finnish market presence. We protect and promote U.S. business interest in Finland, including advocating for resident American companies, and through our SelectUSA Initiative we also support Finnish companies investing in the United States.
From being a quiet agricultural based economy, Finland has transformed itself to a trendsetting, global center for technology and design, a high tech powerhouse with a buzzing startup scene. A third of Finland’s economy is dependent upon international trade and, for a country that is home to 5.4 million people, its commercial clout exceeds its modest size. Currently, the United States represents the third largest market for Finnish exports and Finland’s sixth largest source of imports. The country offers U.S. firms opportunities for investment and collaboration in a range of sectors, including energy and clean tech, ICT, e-mobility, e-health, Arctic (cold weather) technologies and sustainable “green” construction solutions.
The Nordic Region
Finland is part of the Nordic region, consisting of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden (and shares a 900 mile long border with Russia). The homogenous Nordic region, with its 1.8 trillion dollar plus economy, collectively can be considered one of the ten largest economies in the world, and the fifth largest market in Europe. The Nordic countries have close ties to the United States culturally, politically, and historically. For additional information please visit U.S. Commercial Service in the Nordic Region.
