This roundtable will highlight the United States’ push to expand U.S. – Brazil commercial, trade and investment relations with a targeted focus on the science and technology sectors, as well as Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff’s commitment to expand research and education in the STEM fields. These joint efforts are designed to strengthen business, scientific and academic partnerships between the two countries.

Briefings from Ambassador Ayalde and Minister Counselor Brisson, as well as from selected local speakers will frame the roundtable dialogue.  Roundtable attendees will be encouraged to engage in the conversation highlighting the successes and challenges they have experienced, and provide suggestions on how to move forward to strengthen and expand binational business (with emphasis on science and technology), as well as areas to development additional partnerships in research and STEM education.

San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation Global Summit

Through a multi-year collaborative process, San Diego Regional EDC, Biocom, City of San Diego, CONNECT, GO-Biz, Port of San Diego, Qualcomm, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, San Diego State University, and UC San Diego have been working together with nearly 400 local businesses as part of the Global Cities Initiative, a joint project of the Brookings Institution and JPMorgan Chase, to develop a global trade and investment plan for the San Diego region. On March 11, EDC and its partners will jointly release the plan and announce a series of programs to assist in maximizing San Diego's global competitiveness.
