Shanghai Education Delegation at UC Davis


CS Education Team coordinated a USA West Coast grand tour for a Chinese education delegation per the request from CS Shanghai. On Thursday, October 20th, 2011, this Shanghai Education Delegation was given an official tour of the University of California, Davis campus which took place from 12:30PM to 2:00 PM.

The point of contact in Sacramento was George Tastard, director of the Sacramento USEAC. The Sacramento USEAC coordinated this campus tour with Ms. Marcie Kirk-Holland, Project Manager at the UC Davis Internship & Career Center.

The campus tour started at the Walter A. Beuhler Alumni & Visitors Center and ended at Mrak Hall. There were 14 delegates from Shanghai that attended and the purpose of this event was to learn about UC Davis campus and be educated about the University of California admissions system. Upon the delegates’ arrival at the Buehler Alumni & Visitors Center, Ms. Michele Misita, Special Assistant to the Director of Admissions was there to support the delegates. Director of Sacramento USEAC George Tastard attended to greet and support the delegates. Ms. Wenjuan Zhan, Senior Commercial Specialist at the U.S. Consulate General Shanghai was originally supposed to lead the delegation and due to last minute obligations in Shanghai, she was unable to attend. Ms. Zhan was replaced by Ms. Liang Yao, Director at the GAC Shanghai Jiao Tong University Centre and Ms. Jie Du, Vice Director at the GAC Shanghai Jiao Tong University Centre.

The official tour was from 12:30PM to 1:30PM and was led by a current student ambassador at UC Davis. The delegates from Shanghai were given a tour of the campus and its facilities. The tour concluded at Mrak Hall where Ms. Misita introduced the delegation to Ms. Mitsuko Leonard, Director of International Admissions. From 1:30PM to 2:00PM, Ms. Leonard gave an overview and detailed discussion of the UC system-wide admissions and highlighted the unique character of the UC Davis campus.

Ms. Wenjuan reported, via email, the delegates enjoyed their visit to UC Davis and felt very welcomed by the school. This was a successful event.
