On Thursday May 26, 2011 U.S. Small Business Administration held its 2011 Small Business Resource Summit at the Citrus Heights Community Center in Citrus Heights California. The Summit was organized and held in partnership with various other local entities that serve the small business community. The purpose of the summit was to bring together the resources people need to start and grow their business. The Commercial Service was represented at the Small Business Resource Summit by Director George Tastard of the Sacramento Export Assistance Center and Senior International Trade Specialist Tony Hill.
The Summit consisted of an exhibit area and a variety of workshops on topics of interest to small businesses. One of the workshops was an introduction to selling internationally which was supported by the US Department of Commerce, Commercial Service. The Moderator for this workshop was Brooks Ohlson of the CITD and the speakers were Ester Gordillo of the Center for International Trade Development, Director George Tastard of the Sacramento Export Assistance Center , Jerry Avila of Small Business Administration, and Rich Steward of USPS. The workshop was successful at promoting exports to a wider audience of small businesses. In addition, Senior Trade Specialist Hill ran a booth in the exhibit hall and spoke with a number of potential new clients.
